Huawei Mate X foldable smartphone to go on sale later this month in China

The year of 2019 was pretty exciting during the initial months given that the much-anticipated foldable smartphones from Samsung and Huawei were unveiled — Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X.

However, both the smartphones had to undergo a lot of changes in terms of design to increase the durability and thus, the launch of both the smartphones were delayed a couple of times. While Galaxy Fold went on sale earlier this month, now it’s the turn for Mate X.

Huawei had confirmed last month that the Huawei Mate X foldable smartphone will go on sale from October and now a new report claims that the smartphone will go on sale in its home country China by the end of this month.

The Huawei Mate X that comes with a flexible display was first showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 tech event in February. At that time, the device was powered by Kirin 980 chipset. The sales of the foldable phone were expected to begin in August but it was was delayed by the company without revealing the reasons behind it.

It is speculated that the company may release two versions of the Mate X. One may feature the Kirin 980 and the other one could be coming with the latest Kirin 990 chipset that supports 5G connectivity natively. It is speculated that the Kirin 990 SoC edition of the Mate X will be featuring the same triple cameras that are available on the Huawei P30 Pro.

The smartphone comes with what the company calls is “Falcon Wing Design”. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Fold, it folds completely flat with no visible gap. The company says that the hinge system used in the phone is patented and has over 100 components.
